From an early age, he exhibited a strong work ethic and a deep sense of compassion for others. Throughout his 87 years, Fred’s unwavering faith guided him through life’s challenges and triumphs.

 A Career of Excellence

Fred’s professional journey was marked by dedication and success. He spent many years with Kroger’s Corporation, where he cultivated his passion for the grocery business. Later, as president of Smitty’s, Inc., and during his tenure with Affiliated Foods, Inc., Fred’s leadership and commitment to excellence earned him the title of Grocer of the Year.

  Devotion to Family and Community

At the heart of Fred’s life were his family and community. He was a devoted husband to Mary A. Jackson Smith for 66 years, and a loving father to Tammy, Penny, Terry, and Julia. Fred’s impact extended far beyond his immediate family, as he touched the lives of countless individuals through his involvement in the College View Baptist Church and Central Baptist College.

Fred’s legacy is one of faith, service, and kindness. As an ordained deacon and active member of the College View Baptist Church, he led by example, embodying the values of compassion and generosity. His dedication to spiritual education and leadership extended to his role on the Board of Directors of Central Baptist College, where he made lasting contributions to the community.

In his final days, Fred was surrounded by his loved ones at Wentworth Place in Magnolia, where his memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.
